Hajj is the Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and is obligatory at least once in a lifetime for every Muslim who has the physical and financial means.
How does Hajj take place?
Hajj occurs on specific dates: from 8 to 13 Dhul-Hijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic calendar.
I rituali principali sono:
1- Iḥrām – The intention to perform Hajj, wearing simple white garments (for men) and modest clothing (for women), along with observing certain restrictions.
2- Tawaf – Seven circumambulations around the Kaaba.
3- Sa’i – Walking between the hills of Safa and Marwa.
4- Mina – Staying in Mina on 8 Dhul-Hijjah.
5- Arafat – The most important day (9 Dhul-Hijjah), dedicated to prayer in the plain of Arafat.
6- Muzdalifah – Overnight under the stars and collection of pebbles.
7- Rami al-Jamarat – Stoning the symbolic pillars of Satan.
8- Animal sacrifice (Hady) – In memory of the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham).
9- Tawaf al-Ifadah – The final circumambulation around the Kaaba.
10- Sa’i – Walking between Safa and Marwa after Tawaf al-Ifadah.
11- Tawaf al-Wada’ – Farewell circumambulation of the Kaaba before leaving Mecca (mandatory for the Hajj).
Duration of the pilgrimage:
The main Hajj lasts 5 to 6 days, but travel packages generally extend over 13 to 20 days for logistical and spiritual reasons.
